Why is the Haitian Polyglot Swans Paul launching the “Your-Paraguayan-Guarani-Translator” website and “Guarani Translator Audio” app?

So far, I haven’t found a decent English and Guarani website where you can listen to sentences in both English and Guarani at the same time.

As a polyglot (who speaks Haitian Creole, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, some Italian, and a little bit of Guarani, and learning Mandarin Chinese), I am always fascinated by new languages, and as digital nomad, I’ve come to understand that Paraguayan Guarani is the ultimate passport to truly access the Paraguayan culture.

Over the past 7 years, I’ve been traveling in out of Paraguayan as a digital nomad, and on December 2^nd 2025, I decided to start learning Paraguayan Guarani on my own, developing my own self-learning method.

Through research, I’ve found a Paraguayan publisher, and I’ve bought over 10 books from them, including 2 Paraguayan Guarani books, which I quickly read to familiarize myself with the structure of the language.

Second, I went on Youtube and found several channels teaching Guarani. I consumed the videos, and I bought another book from a Youtube teacher.

Third, I perused Tiktok channels teaching Guarani, and I actually hired one of the teachers to help me prepare content from Spanish to Guarani.

More recently, I’ve been able to hire an English to Guarani translator besides hiring Spanish to Guarani translators.

Since then, I’ve dedicated hours upon hours daily to listening, reading, and pronouncing guarani words and sentences. Massive immersion. And since I’ve the privilege of being in direct contact with my friendly Paraguayan neighbors (who invite me to try out their terere or to sit down for a chat), I can practice a few sentences on a daily basis.

Finally, I went a step further and I created a list of over 200 survival sentences that I’ve trying to master in order to communicate better in Guarani. I hired a Guarani teacher and translator to translate those sentences from Spanish to guarani, and he read them aloud, allowing me to fully catch the pronunciation.

Why I created the site?

I am still learning basic Guarani. I am still building basic sentences in Guarani. I once heard that that the best way to learn is to teach.

1. If I plan on teaching basic guarani to English speakers, it becomes a necessity for me to study those basic sentences on a daily basis.
2. The site also allows me to share with other foreigners the essential Guarani lessons for free.
3. To create the Free Paraguayan Guarani lessons on this site, I hired native Paraguayans to pronounce the words correctly. This way, you get native level pronunciation when you listen to the audios on this website.

I hope to create a platform where foreigners can learn basic Guarani and use those sentences to communicate with the wonderful Paraguayan people because learning the local language is a sign of respect to the local culture, and it’s also a major passport to having more friends in Paraguay.
